I stopped paying for AI credits I do not use

My client work comes in bursts. Some months I make 300 images, some months 30. Every AI tool I tried priced me as if every month were the busy one.

The quiet month

Higgsfield Starter is $19 a month for 270 credits, and its pricing page says subscription credits do not roll over and expire at the end of each cycle. Nano Banana Pro costs 2 credits an image there, so $19 buys 135 images.

In a month where I make 30, that is $0.63 for each image I used. The same 30 images on fal at $0.15 each cost $4.50. Two quiet months on Starter is $38, which is more than a Flowgen licence costs once.

When the subscription wins

Per image, the plans are often cheaper than the API, as long as you spend every credit. Higgsfield Plus works out to about $0.098 for a Nano Banana Pro image against fal's $0.15. Some plans include unlimited generation on a few models. If you generate hundreds of images every week, steadily, an unlimited plan is probably the cheaper deal, and I would tell you to buy it.

The problem is not the per-image price. It is a fixed monthly bill sized for someone busier than you, with credits that vanish if you are not.

What I built instead

Flowgen is a desktop canvas that runs on your own provider keys. You pay fal, Google, Higgsfield or Kinovi directly, at their rate, only for what you run, and nothing expires. If you already pay for ChatGPT, GPT Image 2 runs on that plan.

The tool itself is $25 once for the first 100 buyers, then $50, with two years of updates. There is a free tier with every node, five saved workflows and 100 runs a month.
